Spring into Life

Mother  and baby

M is for Mother
Introduce this letter by teaching about things that melt. (butter, marshmallows, ice, snow, etc. Let them see them melt.) You can make marshmallow treats.
1. Talk about The Mixed up Mothers story. Have them discuss what their mothers do. Make something for mother
2. Make it melt. Watch an ice cube melt or melt frozen milk. Make marshmallow treats.
3. Match the mother to babies. (It takes 2 for a match)
4. Make a mini story book 
5. Never be mean. Discuss what is mean with the tots.
6. Music starts with an M. Play musical chairs.


1-Make something for mother. There is a paper plate sunflower. 
(copy this sunflower pattern and then glue it to the back of a paper plate. Cut around the petals. Let the tots glue on the sunflower seeds in the center or paste a picture of the tot.
This works for the "S" is for springing into life with a seed lesson as well.

2. Watch an ice cube melt. 
Make white marshmallow treats by melting the 4 tablespoons of butter in a glass bowl. Melt for about 30 seconds. Add marshmallows (about 2 cups) and melt the marshmallows (about 60 seconds) Stir the marshmallows. Stir in 4 cups of rice krispees. Press into a square pan and cut in squares when you are ready to serve for the snack.

3-Match the mothers to the babies.

6-Music: Play musical chairs. "Here we go round the Mulberry Bush" and

"5 Little Monkeys"


Cut out monkeys and bed. Cut out a small piece of flat sticky magnet to put on the back of the monkeys and the bed. Use this with a magnetic board.

1- practice doing the seed to sunflower sequence.



2- Talk about the season of spring when all the plant life that looks dead, springs to life.

(Name the seasons that the tot spins)
Copy and laminate. Cut out the seasons circle and the arrow. Attach the arrow with a brad fastener. Spin the arrow. 

3- Explain that it takes the sun to help things grow.
4- Plant a seed.
5- Read a Seed to Sunflower story book














6- Have a sunflower seed snack
7- Count six and seven seeds
Make a paper plate sunflower like is shown in the "M" lesson.


8- Make a mini take home seed to sunflower story.

Cut out the four 
pages and staple.

MusicHave them sing "Sing a Song of Sixpence", "One, Two buckle my shoe- five six pick up sticks".
