A Lucky Leprechaun Lesson
Featuring a Step 1 Letter "L"

St. Patrick's Day is March 17, (Wear Green)

An Ll finger puppet

Introducing the Letter "L" with one large line and one little line.
The sound of L goes like...
la la la la la la la la la l- l (sing the la sound in a scale)
Here is a Lucky Leprechaun (show them the Leprechaun puppet). He found this lucky charm. Circle the large hat that the Leprechaun wore and the little lucky charm. Name which one is large and which one is little.

Have the tot's stand. Show them the arrow left. Have the tots point their hand in the same direction as the sign going left. Switch to the sign that says right. Have them point their hands right. Time to play left and right. Move the signs back & forth from left to right.
(Cut out the 2 arrows and then attach a Craft stick to the back.)

Is it light or is it heavy?
While the tot's are sitting in a circle, have them hold a light object in one hand and a heavy object in another. (potato-pencil, an orange and a feather, a penny and a quarter, a piece of paper- and a box of crayons)

Numbers: (The Lucky Charm had 4 leafs)
Here is some Lucky Math

Colors: Play, "Red Light, Green Light"
Place a strip of masking tape at the back of the room. Slide the strip up and down from red to green light. The tot may advance on green, but must stop on red. If they advance to soon, they will go back to the line.

Roll a color Cube to match the green color of a shamrock.
(Cut out and fold on the lines)

Roll and name the colors until you get the color green.

Shapes: What shape was used to make a SHAMROCK?
Spin the shape dial until you get a heart. Name the shapes as you go. You may want to show the shape puppet to each shape that is spun.
